Welcome
Early Kollosche Family History research was started by my late Uncle Ron, "all we had to start with was my father Herbert, remembering his grandfather having a trunk with the name 'WERBEN' painted on the lid, it took some time to find where Werben was"!
Years later my father, Max during his retirement carried on from his brother Ron, researching the Australian side of the family. Now Dad's gone too, I have taken up the baton, so to speak!
The Beginning:
The earliest Kollosche record is George Nechilla-Nezasock-Kollosche born in 1769. The tree follows all branches based on information currently available. I have used Ron Kollosche's booklet, "Kollosche's of Werben Spreewald" published in 1976, Peter Kollosche's family tree chart of 1993 and Max Kollosche's Australian research, as my starting references. This site was commissioned in 2010 with an initial 353 persons, its now reached over 2500 family members and still growing.
Intention:
The aim of this WEB site is to provide a portal where every one in the family can come to learn about our roots, share information, rekindle old friendships, discover lost cousins and preserve our wonderful family history, for now and all future generations. As you browse through the site you will notice wherever possible I have are tried to put a photograph and a profile of each individual. If you can fill in any gaps of the missing information or supply a photograph or share a story or two I would be so grateful.
Research:
Information has been gathered from the State Birth, Death and Marriage Departments, National Archives, Family History Societies and online sources. Also with help of other family members, who have been generous enough to share their research, I have been able to confirm a lot of the information. But unfortunately, not everything can be verified. To this end, please let me know if anything is incorrect, your input is important to me.
In 2011, I commissioned a German genealogy researcher Uwe Porten, who has provided new information on the "Kollosche Family Name Origins" from Werben, Spreewald. Again in 2013 Uwe discovered that the Kollosche's of Werben Spreewald have over the last 200 years moved away from Werben and into the cities, finding a living relative in Berlin.
Privacy:
Every attempt has been made to protect the details of all family members. For this reason the site has been password protected and any public visitor to this site is unable to view individuals private information. Family members are invited to register for a user account. Once registered, you will be able to view all the records. If you do not wish your information to be displayed, let Administrator know and it will be remove from the site.
160th Anniversary:
October 2014 heralded 160 years since George Kolosche arrived in Australia. George married Auguste Henel and together they raised nine children, starting the first branch of the Kolosche family in Australia. To celebrate this 160th Anniversary, thirty eight descendants were in attendance at the Birdwood Lutheran Church Cemetery SA, where a plaque was unveiled by Brian Kollosche, great grandson.
Family History book:
In June 2012 after two years of earnest research on the many branches of the Kollosche family, it occurred to me that I was in the best position to write a family history book. Having just retired, I had the time! The question was should I write about all four Kollosche's (George, Johannes, Mathes & Friedrich) who all came to Australia in the late 1800's.
As Ron Kollosche's booklet covered the arrival of all four, I decided to concentrate on my branch, starting with George Kolosche, first to immigrate in 1854. In the book I have attempted to include all descendants of George and Auguste to the present generation. The book was released in December 2015.
